Canon MX850 IPv6 support?

canon_logoLast week we bought a brand new canon MX850.

As usual i was clicking around in the configuration menu, when i found that it was possible to enable IPv6 support, witch made me really happy.

Today i started playing with the IPv6 support. It turns out, they forgot to add dual stack support! it is only possible to enable IPv6 OR IPv4, not both at the same time.

I figured, maybe there is a firmware update available on the canon website, turns out there is only an older release 1.03, it came pre installed with the 1.06 firmware.

It seems to be a feature, according to the manual: “The machine is not detected after the network settings are changed” Answer: “The IP version may be set to IPv6. If the ip version of the machine is set to IPv6, change it to IPv4. …”.

To bad, back to the old IPv4 again…

First RIPE NCC interview

AMS-IX IPv6 traffic growth


The Amsterdam Internet Exchange has seen a growth of almost 1000% in IPv6 traffic this year.  That is amazing ofcourse, but they expect to see a smaller amount this year.

Ofcourse we hope to see an ever increasing number of IPv6 traffic, but a 1000% growth in the next year would mean we would surpasse IPv4 traffic and thats the part they dont really expect to happen.


Yep, your seeing it right, 1.4 Gbps peek,  but thats still not much compared to 620 Gbps peek IPv4 traffic.

VMware vSphere (ESX4) IPv6 Support

Just a quick heads up for this one, VMware has launched their new ESX4 also known as vSphere some time ago.

Randy ten Have, a good friend of us had a quick review on his weblog about it. The best thing yet is that the management interface now supports IPv6


Its good to see that VMware understands that IPv6 should be possible.. Hopefully the next release will have it enabled by default!
